  1. Avant-garde - new and experimental ideas and methods in art, music, or literature
  2. Nostalgia - a sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past
  3. Appropriation -  the act of taking something for your own use, usually without permission
  4. Pastiche - an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period
  5. Parody - an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect
  6. Irony - the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect
  7. Ideology - a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy
  8. Genre - a style or category of art, music, or literature
  9. Sherrie Levine - Sherrie Levine, (born April 17, 1947, Hazelton, Pa., U.S.), American conceptual artist known for remaking famous 20th-century works of art either through photographic reproductions (termed re-photography), drawingwater colour, or sculpture. Her appropriations are conceptual gestures that question the Modernist myths of originality and authenticity. She held that the loss of authenticity in art was a result of the ubiquitous mediated signs that defined contemporary reality and that it was impossible to create anything new.
