Collaboration - Reflective statement

Collaboration

For this project we were give the brief to respond to the statement 'When not to....' We were told that for the final submission we would need to create a play blasted animation that had to be between 30 seconds and 2 minutes long and that we also had to use the 3D pre-made Moom rigs as our characters. After brainstorming many ideas, we came up with a 'When not to.... Interfere' idea which is what we based our final animation on.

I believe that one of the first problems that me and my group encountered was when we first started the project and that was the story line for the animation. We had come up with multiple ideas, which each of us were happy to create, but after speaking to Alan, we were told to look at the different ways that comedy could be portrayed. After a few more of our ideas being pitched to Alan and a variety of research, we were finally successful with an animation that we all believed was possible to create and was still comical.

One of the main issues that I encountered while animating was my character model for 'The Singer'. The first model that I was using to animate was originally created by Nelly. The model looked perfect and worked perfectly until when I got further into animating and the model broke. After speaking to Alan, he suggested to recreated the model using a new Moom character and importing the props that the Singer had on the older model to the new model. Doing this worked successfully. Once I had continued animating I then ran into other problem with the model, the Singer's character set was not importing correctly. I asked another member of my group, Emily, whether she was able to help me. After multiple attempts of importing different versions of the character, the character set was imported correctly. This was as we realised that we needed to break all of the character's key frames before exporting her into the scene that I was using.

I have enjoyed working as part of a group for the collaboration project. Being a member of the group has enabled me to build my confidence in communicating my ideas. It has also allowed me to see each group member's strengths and how they can be used correctly, placing the group members into roles suiting their abilities. I have also enjoyed the roles that I have been able to be within our group. The roles I had were CG Modeler, Texture artist, Animator, Director, Production Designer, Art director and Screenwriter. I enjoyed each of my roles equally as they all required different skills and understanding.

In conclusion I really enjoyed being able to work in the group I was placed in. Not only did I gain experience with how to manage a group and direct an animation, I was also able to create new friendships and learn new skills along the way. I believe that our final animation is very successful and I am proud of my group for being so hard working and for being interested in our project.
